New Frontend
For many years the only frontend I used with MythTV was the mvpmc. However, once I started installed my DVB-S2 card in the slave backend and recorded some HD content from Freesat I needed a different sort of frontend to watch it.
I decided to go to install a small PC below my TV that would act as a dedicated frontend with no backend function. I chose the following
- Antek IAK 300-65 Mini ITX case
- Asus - AT3N7A-1 - miniitx board which has Atom 330 and NVidia chipset with hdmi output
- 2 Gbyte Ram
- 160 GByte 2.5" Samsung Sata disk
- DVD-R
Altogether it cost abot £270 in March 2010
The case has 2 sided mounted fans but I only connected 1. The motherboard also has a fan so I was interested in the noise level. I am pleased to say that I can't hear it at all unless I turn eveything else off in the room and stnd really close.
I installed openSuSe and fitted a Windows MCE USB IR receiver to control MythTV.
The system works extremely well and plays all recorded content very well.
